**These bars make me see stars**
“I step up in the booth: voice raspy, cornrows fucked up, and elbows ashy. ‘Cause what you see is what you get. But what you don’t see is the genius in it. I spit like Jesus, similes scarin’ the bejesus outta these white people and shit. ‘Cause they don’t really get it. The just fascinated with the way it gets presented.”
“Society denyin’ me, they try to run and hide from me, and shit on me like diarrhea—oh the irony! I’m ironing my clothes so they can hire me and fire me, my spirit just too fiery, it’s a liability. Why they try to lie to me and front on my abilities? Chalk it up to jealousy. UNDENIABILITY—RAHH!”
So many bars float around my head. All day. Up through my ears, or way down from a memory—they work real hard to get to me. And they make it! It makes me feel lucky. It makes me feel special, that someone would craft something so well and share it with me. That feeling spurred me into a crush so deep I had to write a love note. Several, in fact. Little Rapper Love Notes. Dedicated to the originator of the BAR. The rapper. <3
The bars above got me all daffy because they show such a blatant understanding of who the artists are in “society”, and who they actually are. They speak on the duality so beautifully in that over-the-shoulder, “oh yeah, nigga, I see what they doing’”, sort of way that let’s you know—there are real geniuses out here: being your scapegoat villains AND maintaining and flaunting their godliness with facts dancing on wordplay and intentional voices. What Snatch could ask for more?
There are SO many lines that got me smitten, yo. I’m excited to share them with you.
Feel free to share some with me too! (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Peace the Lordz.
Love from the Snatch.
